Pruning Davidson Plums

Davidson Plums grow so high that one can't protect the fruit from parrots (which attack the juvenile fruit remorselessly). I have been told one can just lop a mature tree, say at the 2.5m mark? Has anyone tried this? What happened? I imagine that if the tree just re-crowned and didn't push high again, one could protect the fruit with a cylinder of wire netting at say 300mm radius.

FNQ Davidsonia species are often taller trees, local NNSW species are often short multi trunk trees. FNQ types in remnant open positions are often more compact+multi trunk. According to some there are subtypes within each species, and the rarer smooth Davidsonia.
I wouldnt have thought the Nimbin local type was over tall? Maybe check what type if planted. Nimbin had the best vegan eggplant pizza, last time I was there.
