We are moving house, have a beautifully thriving Mango tree, it has been planted for approximately 4 years, produced fruit last year, is covered in flowers right now, but we want to take it to our new home, any helpful tips PLEASE. Cheers, Wendy

I think you will be fine. I would assume you may have problems with plants that send down a tap root however even then plants are very resilient and if they can't send down tap roots they adapt by more surface roots.

I would give it a very thorough prune first of course. That way when you plant it in your new home it won't have to support as many branches and leaves and will be able to create some new ones.

I find when you prune a mango tree the branches have a ball looking connection. If you cut this ball in half rather then midway through a branch the mango will usually shoot out new growth more quickly then if you just cut the branch willy nilly.

Here are a few links worth a read on transplanting fruit trees:

Just wondering how you went with the Mango Tree? Is it still alive after transplanting it?

Hello Correy, after all the conflicting replys to my request, we were too worried about killing this beautiful tree, so we went and bought a new one, it is about 6 years old and in a huge pot, we will plant it as soon as our new house is finished and hopefully be back to having some glorious mango's in a couple of years. Thanks for your enquiry. Cheers. Wendy
