Some truth to that Julie. Blood oranges can have increased internal colour (anthocyanins) with some degree of post harvest chilling too.
The flavour tends to suffer though.

I remember imported Moro blood oranges, fantastic internal colour, but tasted like a cold black expresso coffee in a cardboard cup.
