I have a PAWPAW - SOUTHERN RED Carica papaya in my front , south facing coastal garden.

its leaves have dropped ..is itr deciduous ?

You are further up the coast than I but I have lost 7 seedlings of the 9 I had growing this year, the only survivors are in pots in my greenhouse.

From what I can tell its cold wet feet which has caused root rot. If I was doing it again I'd keep the water away from them with some plastic and only give them water if the soil was starting to dry out, test by sticking a finger into the soil first.

Yep, they like soil that is only slightly damp.

Some are more tropical than others. The Broad leaf is the most tropical I have.
