Brendan starts with ... Took this pic yesterday of my seed-grown avocado. It's actually the first time it's had a decent crop, I lost a few with cyclone Ita, as it had about 125 avos on. It's a type 'B' btw. The avo tree behind it copped it during the cyclone, lost about half the crop :-( Yes, it does need a good prune!

Brendan says... Hi Mark, I think it was a seed from a Shepard avo (Shepard is a 'B') No, the fruit are nothing like a Shepard, but the skin does stay green when ripe. Funny thing, the original tree was snapped off by a cyclone about 8 years ago, but the stump was still intact. I cut it off level to make a seat :-) Years later, it sprouted again, so I let it grow. Last year was the first time it fruited with about 6 fruit. Hard to say how old it is, as it's had a rough life. Probably about 16 years old all up? | About the Author Brendan Mackay, Q 16th April 2014 9:31am #UserID: 1947 Posts: 1722 View All Brendan's Edible Fruit Trees |
