craby starts with ... Hi, I've had a small leaved Tamarind growing in full sun for about 8 or 9 years. Its around 5 metres high and is about 3 metres across. Despite it looking very healthy all year round, we've never had any flowers or fruit from it. I'm struggling to find any info on how large does it need to be to bear fruit or how old, or if there's a particular fertiliser etc that I need to use to give it a hurry along. If anyone can help I'd appreciate it. regards, Dave | About the Author craby Kilcoy 24th April 2016 10:27am #UserID: 13786 Posts: 2 View All craby's Edible Fruit Trees |
Pademelon1 says... Hi Craby, Your question sparked my interest as I am also growing a small leaf tamarind, although much smaller. I looked online, but nothing really helped. The best I could find was searching through the recovery plan for the species, which gave some very vague information, But enough to indicate that the tamarind can still flower and fruit while young, but overall fruiting is irregular and not guaranteed quickly. This is in the wild though, so fertiliser, watering and general plant care could produce different results. I hope this helps, Pade | About the Author Pademelon1 PADDINGTON,2021,NSW 24th April 2016 3:17pm #UserID: 11938 Posts: 138 View All Pademelon1's Edible Fruit Trees |

craby says... Hi, I just thought I'd give an update on this. I had a bag of Nitrophoska in the shed, so I applied about half a kg around the base and the surrounding area of the tree in April, and again at the start of this month in September. Incredibly it's actually started to flower, so I don't know whether it's coincidental or not, or maybe it was just missing something that I've now added. Anyway, it's got quite a few flowers on it now, so I might have solved the problem. FYI if this is of any assistance. regards, Dave | About the Author craby Kilcoy 16th September 2016 11:55am #UserID: 13786 Posts: 2 View All craby's Edible Fruit Trees |
