Wayne starts with ... We have four different size ants that inhabit our place from time to time, these are size 3. From minute to big busy ones they invade our house, so the trick is 3 parts of Syrup to 1 part of Borax [boron] mix well and place in the ants path. After a couple of days they are all gone, usually for about six months or so.

Wayne says... Whatever's on the shelf Russ, doesn't matter. I reckon honey etc would work as well, just something that they like so that they cart the borax back to the nest and kill it. I also have baits dug in around the yard in PVC pipe with a mix of 2 blood and bone to 1 borax for white ants, I can't swear by that being 100% effective but I haven't found any for sometime. | About the Author Wayne Mackay QLD 11th September 2009 2:44pm #UserID: 338 Posts: 908 View All Wayne's Edible Fruit Trees |

Julie says... Anyone know about meat ants? I don't know the Latin name for the species. They are very hard to get rid of, but they don't usually come inside. If they are in your path, they swarm all over and BITE really hard! Their nests are enormous, and join to other nests underground, going for many metres. | About the Author Roleystone WA 11th September 2009 6:05pm #UserID: 0 Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees |

amanda says... Thanks for the tip Wayne - I have these ants (bull ants we call them) too. They are meat ants - so B&Bone might just work - I will let u know if successful - as most things I have tried are not "nice" as normal baits don't work. (I even poured diesel down one particularly bad nest - took about 10 litres over a week to finally get to all parts of the nest and it's never come back!) But can't do this near plants. I wonder if diesel breaks down in the soil into harmless stuff after a period of time? | About the Author amanda19 Geraldton. amanda says... I still think diesel is the way to go for bull-ants - sounds bad but not really - a natural hydrocarbon product produced by mother nature herself. Here is the info I pulled out of an MSDS on it: Persistence/degradability: This product is inherently biodegradable. I would rather pour this down a big nest than use borax or residual/synthetic poisons..but just my opinion... | About the Author amanda19 Geraldton.
