Slicko says... I would suspect that tomatoes planted that way in areas of high humidity would be subject to high levels of early blight and other disease or pests. Because they seem planted so closely together that there seems to be no opportunity for breeze to adequately ventilate them or room to bag the ripening fruit. | About the Author Slicko CARINDALE,4152,QLD 24th February 2015 10:50pm #UserID: 1775 Posts: 227 View All Slicko's Edible Fruit Trees |
Diego says... It actually looks like an idea that will work well. Interesting Mike that you grow tomatoes as a winter crop. I certainly can't get mine to grow and fruit over summer. It must be the humidity. I also put in some green grape tomato seeds a couple of months ago and while still alive they are still less than 100mm high. Sigh. | About the Author Diego Woombye 25th February 2015 12:03pm #UserID: 4715 Posts: 283 View All Diego's Edible Fruit Trees |
The poster formerly known as... says... Cherry Toms grow great over summer here. Though they explode if left on too long as they grow too quick. They self seed and don't get ff attacks like the other 'tropical' types. The plants often succumb to disease after a few weeks, but are quickly replaced by others. In winter you can grow real ones. I overdosed on cherry toms last summer and haven't been able to look at them since, but the kids love them. | About the Author Theposterformerlyknownas Keperra 25th February 2015 12:21pm #UserID: 3270 Posts: 1552 View All Theposterformerlyknownas's Edible Fruit Trees |

MIke T1 says... Like many parts of the tropics the 3 winter months are the ones to grow veggies with tomatoes having a 5 month season.Shallots, spring onions, radishes, bok choy, pay choy, mustard and various others will be planted by me in may mostly.By October it is getting too hot and UV is too high. The rain, heat and humidity now is way too high. | About the Author MIke T1 cairns 25th February 2015 6:53pm #UserID: 10744 Posts: 250 View All MIke T1's Edible Fruit Trees |
