Tree Replacement (forum)

I have a 30-40 year old Figius tree on my property in Perth that unfortunately must be removed. The tree is quite a street feature. However,it's root system has become quite invasion and is causing serious damage to the building, footpaths, etc. I would like to replace it once removed with something that compliments the character of our 105 year old home and it's english style garden but not as invasive. My wife likes fruit trees and we prefer ever greens. Any suggetions on what might be a suitable opition? Larger trees would be the direction.
