Fruit tree 101 starts with ... I got a dwarf peach and nectarine tree from Daley's. Both started well but now seem to be struggling. The peach has lost most of its leaves. The nectarine still has lots of leaves but isn't getting bigger and seems to have something sticky (maybe SAP) at the tips of new growth. I included two pics of the nectarine and one of the peach. Any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?

echinopora says... I find at my place the dwarf stonefruit are really prone to damage from coddling moth. The larvae destroy the growing tips, which then brown off and gum up. On a standard peach they can push out new growth fast enough to overcome any fungal and coddling moth issues, but the dwarfs are just too slow to take much damage. I would try to cut back all the affected tips and do the lime sulfur paint thing to kill any overwintering bugs when it goes dormant. Then net it. If you use pesticide find one that kills coddling moth. Rob | About the Author terranora 23rd March 2016 10:23am #UserID: 10023 Posts: View All 's Edible Fruit Trees |
