I have my wai chee in a pot, so it is a yes but it is very slow growing and i am doubtful it will do well in the pot in the long run. After a few years, still tiny, so would be a yes to keep dwarf, but it is at the expense of getting fruit.

Ish says...
Hi. I am no expert but just wanted to give you some hope... My Wai Chee (approx 3 yo) was only 50-60cm tall in a 45L grow bag and fruited approx. 20-30 very tasty lychees this season. I didn't have the heart to remove them even though a young tree but doesn't seem to have done it any harm. It is now (recently) in the ground (Brissie) and happily putting on lots of new leaf growth but still pretty tiny heightwise... Will try to locate a photo of it in fruit (haven't been able to put my finger on one to date...). Of note, my Kwai mai is half the age and already a third taller...

that's quite impressive Ish, well done.

I did consider the Sah Keng - but they were quite a large size on the retail shelf, figured out they'd turn out to be rather big trees.

the other dwarf one is salathiel. They are temperamental. My last one died within 3 days of arriving by post from Daley - not their fault, the plant just got stressed, lost all leaves and just gave up. Would recommend getting one only if you can pick up one and transit yourself.

My Wai Chi didnt flower well last 2 years but saw fruit on potted plants a nursery gets from up north and sells here in Melb

The Sah Keng flowered well and set one fruit that got to pea size and dropped off - it gets thru winter here very well and had a great flush in Feb but one soft parts got burnt on a 40c day with hot dry winds - pics are on my edibles page as well as the Sapodilla in flower.

My 2 litchi's in one pot grow very well and fast. They love water and always flush after i drench them.

They are over 2 metres tall now so in our climate it's sure possible to grow them. To get them to bloom is more difficult.
