hi,,,

Our front gardens are full of weeds between the plants.. Back gardens have no problems in areas where this succulent is growing.... So would like to seperate and move chunks of it to various areas in front garden.. They seem to not rely on too much sun which is good..

Looks easy to peel to seperate pieces and transplant... Just wanted to know firstly what the name of the plant is? and also advice on transplanting it for best rate of success? thanks.

That is a variegated Purple/Dwarf Oyster Plant - Tradescantia spathacea, but it is also commonly known as Moses-in-the-cradle ~ Rhoeo discolour.

They are really easy to grow and can tolerate a fairly wide range of conditions, from quite dry & sunny to wet and shady. That being said, It does not like frost, and greatly prefers well-draining soil. I don't know about pH.

As for transplanting, simply break off a section with some rhizome and replant! If you are planting it in a particularly harsh environ, you may want to keep it in water till it sprouts roots first. Grows quickly, so you'll soon have a gorgeous thick carpet of them!

Best of luck,
