Washington navel orange major pruning

    1 responses

Norm2 starts with ...
In 2005 I bought & planted here in Goonellabah a Washington navel orange tree that I purchased from Daleys Kyogle. I now wish to do a major renovation (pruning) of this orange tree and want to know what is the best time of the year to do this. Thanks.

Hi Norm, Citrus respond well to be pruned and now is a great time to do it while it is in the growing season, you may lose the crop for next winter but your tree will be all the better for cutting it back. You could take 1/3 - 1/2 off your tree and top dress with fertilizer and a healthy layer of organic mulch such as lucerne hay.
