This is your opportunity to join a specialist subtropical fruit tree nursery. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Propagator who enjoys working within a fast paced, hard working environment with a great team. After an initial three month trial period the right person will be offered a permanent position.

Occupational Summary:
This position includes the supervision of polyhouse production including the propagation, labelling and maintenance of a variety of species.

Work Performed:
·Maintenance of stock plants and collection of plant material. Supervise the planting, watering, pruning and fertilising of same; inspect specimens for insect and disease control.

·Complete large volumes of vegetative propagation; budding; grafting; cuttings and air layering.

·Supervise junior staff in the propagation and maintenance of adequate supplies.

·Plan and develop techniques and devices for more efficient greenhouse operations.

·Confer with personnel to determine propagation needs and resolve special problems.

·Attend horticultural and botanical meetings, conventions, and seminars to stay abreast of research and new developments and techniques.

·Make work assignments; review the work of lower level employees; train new personnel.

·Placement, identification and labelling of plants.

·Some research, recording and report writing skills.

·Perform other related duties incidental to work described herein.

Selection Criteria:
1. Proven previous experience. This would generally require a minimum of three years experience in vegetative propagation.

2. Proven ability to work effectively with others to establish goals and achieve results. Skills in building and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and suppliers.

3. Completion of a relevant diploma or an equivalent alternative combination of knowledge, training and experience.

4. Proven ability to process large volumes of work. Demonstrated capacity to complete tasks accurately and in a timely fashion.

5. Ability to quickly acquire and apply complex or technical knowledge.

Highly Desirable

Previous knowledge of fruit and nut species, or ability to quickly become familiar with same.
