About My Edible Backyard

Why AmyinBrisbane1 Love's Edible Plants

When we moved into our house in August 2010, I wanted a native plant garden and have created quite a healthy one in our front yard and along our back fence, with lilly pilly hedges to cover the cyclone fences we share with our neighbours. However, growing our own fruit and veggies is more appealing than ever as I have developed a real love of gardening. I've now started to plant backyard fruit trees to supply us year round. We currently have

- Bananas- Lady Finger & Gold Finger
- Pawpaws- from our neighbour so will have to check variety!
- Pineapples- grown from tops from a farm near Maryborough
- Nectarine 'Sunraycer', planted in duo with Peach 'Florda Prince'
- Grapefruit 'Flame', planted in duo with Tahitian Lime
- Lemon 'Lotsa Lemons' x 2, in pots

My wish list is:

- duo planting of Lemonade/Tangello or Washington Navel Oranges
- duo planting of Apple 'Anna' and 'Golden'

I'd also love to grow raspberries but have run out of space in the garden at this stage!

Florda prince peach help needed - I recently purchased a Florda Prince peach tree that I planted into the garden in a duo with Nectarine 'Sunraycer'. Dug the soil over and added a little mixed composted manure and a handful of gypsum as we have a fair amount of clay. The nectarine is gr..4583 days 7hrs

Comments: - Can't wait to try the fruit from this one! I've planted it in a duo with a Washington Navel orange. We have silty clay soil so I've planted them in a mound and mulched with sugarcane. Going well so far!

Pineapple - F180 (Seedling)

AmyinBrisbane1's Edible Fruits
Update: 4583 days 6hrs

Comments: - I've planted three pineapple tops into the garden to see how they go. They were taken from pineapples from a farm near Maryborough, QLD. The pineapples were big and sweet so hopefully this fruit will be the same in a couple of years time! They are currently planted among pawpaws & bananas and mulched with sugarcane. They are north facing so get sun for most of the day.
