Grumichama - Orange

John Mc's Edible Fruits
Update: 2 days 4hrs

Comments: -

Small dark red, almost black colored berry with soft, juicy pulp tasting like a cherry. Flavor is quite good, fruits are usually 1/2-3/4" wide.

Description: Medium sized tree or bush to as high as 30ft, but often much lower. Can be grown as a bush.

Hardiness: Trees are subtropical or tropical and can survive to 26F. Also seems to grow fairly well in warm tropical climates.

Growing Environment: Generally a slow grower, the grumichama likes year-round water and care should be taken to avoid periods of drought. Can be grown in sun or in shade.

Propagation: By seeds, which can take up to 4 years to begin bearing.

Uses: Eaten fresh. Also used to make desserts.

Native Range: Native to coastal areas of Southern Brazil. The grumichama is cultivated in parts of South America.

Dwarf Orange - Navelina (Grafted)

Kath's Edible Fruits
Update: 123 days 24hrs

Comments: -

A lovely dense compact tree, I grow it in a row with dwarf citrus.  Beautiful scented flowers int he spring followed by high quality fruit.  Easy to peal, large juicy oranges.

Planted: 2003

Growing: In the Ground

First Fruited: 3 Years from purchase in pot

Sun/Shade: Full Sun

Pollination: Self Pollination

Pest Control:

I have problems with Californian red scale on this tree, it was saved from a cheap reject bin during the drought.   I spray with eco oil and I have cut it back hard to produce a flush of vigorous new growth.

Thyme - orange

Kathy's Edible Fruits
Update: 143 days 17hrs

Comments: -

Autumn 2011: still has small leaves like normal thyme but completely different shape. Much lower growing. Had a beautiful orange and thyme fragrance (as the name suggests). It's not big enough to harvest yet but I am keen to cook with it. Smells beautiful.

Because my normal thyme doesn't like competition from other ground covers I have put this one in the pot with the ice cream bean where it will act as living mulch.

Slow growing, drops fruit regularly, fruit that is left gets scarred??  All this rain we have had has really helped this little fella.  Is flowering again as well.  Got two fruit in 2009/10

September 2010 has put on a fair amount of growth in a year and is now full of flowers. Going to fertilise now.

Got two fully ripened oranges which were delicious.  For some reason most of the fruit fall off soon after developing.
