Passionfruit - Banana

Kathy's Edible Fruits
Update: 109 days 14hrs

Comments: - Spring 2011: Everyone says that these are the bomb and I LOVE passionfruit so when I saw it at the nursery I thought I might try it out! :O)

Sumemr 2011:  Despite how strongly it started out my poor passionfruit died. There didn't seem to be any reason - one day a branch just died, then the next and the next. It was really weird. My grandma gave me another for Christmas so I am trying again. The tag recommends growing it in a pot so I am trying that this time. Fingers crossed!!

Planted: 2011

Height 1 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Qty: 1

Pollination: No

Pest Control:

Nothing at all seems to have bothered it yet, despite the massive slug and snail invasion that we've had this spring.

I am growing this mainly for the spicy scented utterly gorgeous flowers.  Benefit from cross pollination.  I haven't set a trellis up for it yet but may grow it over my shade house.

Passionfruit - Grafted Black

Kath's Edible Fruits
Update: 123 days 24hrs

Comments: -

It is hard to go past a black passionfruit in terms of flavour and fullness of fruit.  I need to construct a trellis for the vine though.  I do have seedling black passionfruit growing wild in the bush but I have not seen them fruit - this may be because they don't get enough sun.

Passionfruit - Black (Grafted) 6/10

Cool Climate's Edible Fruits
Update: 174 days 19hrs

Comments: -

I love passionfruit so bought this in 2009. Did nothing in a pot for a year, so I decided to bite the bullet & put it in the ground. Immediately took off. Badly knocked by the frost by the end of winter (we had a bad winter for frosts), but coming back nicely now. Flowered 2010, no fruit yet.

Height 1.5 metres

Growing: In the Ground

Grew this from seed as a cool climate alternative to black passionfruit. It has grown so well, easy to germinate and is growing strongly since I put it in the ground. I'll update when it fruits.

Absolutely have no idea what happened with it...thinking maybe it's too cold in Sydney maybe? Don't know but it died within 3 weeks of arriving and it looked to me like a virus as it shrivelled up and died a sad death. the Red Panama I bought at the same time is happy so no idea what happened there?

Passionfruit - \"Nelly Kelly\" (Grafted) 9/10

Nathan's Edible Fruits
Update: 270 days 12hrs

Comments: -

Going great, reasonable amount of fruit on right now, waiting for them to ripen.

Am also getting the neighbours into the swing of things by training it over to thier side as well to share it, and once they see how much fun that is, will be adding more berries etc to fence. This will also give it more afternoon sun.

Had an initial problem of rootstock going rampant over it, but that was just laziness. Have since taken several bits of rootstock with roots and potted them up, and am about to graft some upper scions of this onto them.

Passionfruit - Panama Gold Grafted

Minky's Edible Fruits
Update: 360 days 24hrs

Comments: -

just planted - had a grafted black that died suddenly - hopefully this doesn't go the same way.

Has gone absolutely ballistic.  Constantly having to go out every few days to make sure the new growth stays off the ground. Can't wait until this time next year when it should fruit.

Only been in ground for 5 months and is already flowering - amazing.

So far I have about 7 fruit with a lot more flowers on the way.  The first fruit is huge in size, just have to wait for it to ripen now.

The vine flowered profusley and I had over 100 fruit, however none ripened before winter and now we have just finished a particularly cold winter it has lost half the fruit and leaves, hopefully will spring back in warmer weather.  Might bite the bullet and prun back heavily at the sake of the fruit to give it the best chance this spring.

Did prune back heavily and have reaped the rewards.  Have so far pulled about 50 or so passionfruits off and frozen a large amount of pulp - May 2011.
