Dwarf Apple - Tropic Sweet (Grafted) VF's Edible FruitsUpdate: 8 days 20hrs Comments: - Have grown this before and is my favourite of all tropical apples - very crisp and sweet with some acidity, tasting much like a Jonathon. A rewarding tree, but does require some mainenance to keep productive. At least this time I have a dwarf variety, so pruning won't be such a chore! (They can grow very big normally.) Read a tip if not getting enough chill - manually defoliate tree about July/August, and this will activate a hormone to produce flowers and fruit.(Same as if naturally dropped leaves.) Wonder if this would work on non-tropical varieties? Planted: 2012 Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Cross Pollination Cross Pollinator Variety: Tropical Anna Pest Control: Everything loves apples/apple trees - fungi, bugs, birds, bats, possums. If vigilant, can keep fungal diseases in check with organic sprays. If exclusion nets then used, can have a really nice crop - must net as soon as fruit sets though. Was this review helpful? Dwarf Apple - Tropical Anna (Grafted) VF's Edible FruitsUpdate: 11 days 22hrs Comments: - Have grown at previous property, and they really are like a Red Delicious. I didn't really want to grow apples again as they are high maintenance plants, but they are my son's favourite fruit. At least now I know what I'm in for! At least there should be less pruning, as this is a dwarf. When growing your own apples, apart from the obvious benefit of having super fresh fruit, you can avoid all the stronger chemicals used in commercial orchards which are sprayed frequently. Planted: 2012 Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Cross Pollination Cross Pollinator Variety: Tropic Sweet Pest Control: Be vigilant with fungal sprays (organic ok), and use exclusion nets as soon as fruit sets - keeps out bugs, birds, bats, possums. Dwarf Lemonade (Grafted) 4/10 Peter's Edible FruitsUpdate: 267 days 12hrs Comments: - I like lemonade fruit as it has a more sweet flesh than lemons in general and makes a good refreshing drink when cold. Many years ago I remember purchasing this fruit at a selected fruit and vegie shop at Clayfield in Qld. I have never seen this fruit anywhere else except at Fruit World in NSW.
Fruiting Months September and October Planted: 2010 Growing: In a Pot First Fruited: 1 Years from purchase in pot Sun/Shade: Medium Sun Water Given in: Spring Pollination: Self Pollination Fertiliser or Organics Used: Complete Citrus Feed and slow release fertiliser. (Searles) When I Fertilise: When Fruiting and Yearly Pest Control: White oil Question: I like to know why the flowers are not staying on. I've provided the plant with correct fertlizer, it's in a pot but I'm contemplating placing in the ground with real soil but not sure when to do this. Will I need to place some type of support in the ground. i.e. a stick to help the plant support itself?
