fig 8/10BJ's Edible FruitsUpdate: 17 days 16hrs Comments: - Rescued (a friend didn't want the plant anymore) as a dormant pot-bound plant that had never fruited. I pruned it within an inch of its life and it seems much happier now. I'm hoping I'll get fruit next year. leaves emerge in August / September. There only appears to be a single fruit. But oh, the taste of that little fruit ... divine! As a kid I used to eat wild figs by the river, and I've eaten shop figs, but this is so much yummier. Unfortunately I often forget to water the pot in the summer ... so perhaps that is a factor. I really need to figure a better location for this plant. The fig only gets washing machine run off, but it still really needs to be planted rather than in a pot - I'm hoping to plant it in a soak-well when I build a vegetable patch (so worms can move in and out but roots are trapped). It will be used to shade summer sun near the laundry door. I am yet to figure the ideal spot - additional water has resulted in a few more fruit but it doesn't seem to be doing much. I have added worms from the worm farm. I'm going to release this guy onto the farm (a friend wants a small fig on their rural property). I cannot put him in the ground and he's not a "pretty" feature in the pot so I'd rather he had a bit more attention and I could plant somethign I use more. Very tasty, but hidden out the back so I'd rather see it go somewhere appreciated. Planted: 2009 Height 2 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Water Given in: Winter Pollination: Self Pollination Pest Control: None Question: How can I find out what type of fig this is? Was this review helpful? Yes | No | Report CommentsBrad says... [650 days 21hrs ago]the fruit will most likely identify it. Most likely it was a cutting, rather than seed growing, so it should be good. If not, you can graft figs or start new from cuttings. I'm growing on a couple varieties, but they're still tiny* You need your own My Edibles Page to contribute Quick & Easy |

Fig White Adriatic (Cutting) 10/10 Kathy's Edible FruitsUpdate: 109 days 20hrs Comments: - My white fig was a gift from a gorgeous little old man who brought it with him from Greece a LONG time ago when it was OK to do so. I can't be sure that it is an Adriatic fig but I can guess. Spring 2010: I decided to try deep-rooting it when I repotted it. Seems to have worked really well. It has been slow to get re-growing but seems really happy once it settled down. Autumn 2011: I let it fruit this season which admittedly restricted its growth but now with the colder weather it has lost all of its leaves but the fruit have not ripened. Looks like an alien tree! Spring 2011: It seems to have rotted overwinter. No indication as to why. Prolly shouldn't have let it fruit theyear. Chris has promised me a new cutting - but have to wait til winter next year! :O( Fruiting Months January, February, March Planted: 2009 Height 0.5 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 First Fruited: 1 Years after I planted Cutting Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: No Was this review helpful? Fig Black Genoa (Cutting) 10/10 Kathy's Edible FruitsUpdate: 144 days 24hrs Comments: - I love figs. I would say that they are probably my favourite. They fruit well, are a lovely shade tree, are low maintenance and you make SO MANY FRIENDS when people find out you have a fig tree! ;O) 2009: All of my figs have grown from cuttings from my old tree which was one of a very few trees I had to leave behind at my old house. A friend taught me the trick - you crush the bottom 30% of the cutting with a rock and you get a MUCH better striking rate. 2010: The Genoas are crazy and even though it is winter and the other types are losing their leaves the Genoas are putting on new growth. Autumn 2011: They never did lose their leaves last year and I am sure that some of the leaves they have now are the same ones! AND they do not look like they are intending to lose them this year either. Summer 2011: With the cold and rain the figs aren't too happy. They also were copping mealy bug and stupid fig leaf curl bug. RAR! Not happy. Was forced to resort to Confidor. I hate to do it but they were is too much pain. Fig - Brown Turkey (Grafted) 8/10 Fos's Edible FruitsUpdate: 212 days 6hrs Comments: - Bought this one as a tube nearly 4 years ago. Planted in ground &
grew very slowly but I think the soil is too fertile & too much
rain the last few seasons. Have since moved to a pot ( June 2011 when
dormant ) & doing well with more fruit now. They like it very hot
with not too much water except more when fruiting. I had another in a
terracotta pot 5 years ago in full sun against a brick wall
that i neglected & it thrived. Brown Turkey Fig 10/10 Au0rey's Edible FruitsUpdate: 226 days 6hrs Comments: - I have two brown turkey figs. Both are in pots. One is having developing figs while the other was thought dead till it started to produce green buds and now leaves. Am very very estatic that it is alive and glad that I did not give up and bin it...It is from Fleming's nursery. The other one is just another brown turkey fig tree from a normal nursery and was much cheaper. However, this brown turkey tree did far better than the Fleming's in terms of growth/development and in fact figs from both trees taste equally good.
