Mango - Sensation

BJ's Edible Fruits
Update: 17 days 17hrs

Comments: -

The sound of this fruit and the idea of a red dwarf mango is rather exciting to me. The plan is to put it in a giant pot (about 0.5 m3) to match the other dwarf mango (which will also be in a giant pot). I've gently rubbed its tip (spring 2010) and it now seems to be preparing to branch (yippee). I've planted strawberries all around the pot to act as a living mulch

Alas, no branching ... but LOADS of fruit. In Jan 2012 I've had to remove over a dozen the size of apricots to stop them weighing down the plant. I've added support to stop the remaining fruit from bending the plant to the ground (I intend to thin down to 1-2 fruit, but want to see how they develp first)

Home grown mangos are the ultimate! so much flavour packed into a little fruit! Delicious!

Mango - Ono (Grafted)

BJ's Edible Fruits
Update: 17 days 17hrs

Comments: -

This is supposed to be a very tough form of mango. It is growing in a large pot after my Palmer dwarf finally expired. I've put down strawberries as a living mulch and the mango seems quite happy. It has a few branches but isn't growing at a great rate yet (April 2011)

As of June 2011 the plant has put on a spurt and added a further 2 branches. It doesn't seem to want to get any taller - but it does seem healthy!

By the end of 2011 it had several flowers and set fruit. In Jan 2012 I thinned this to 3 fruit only. It is still putting on new growth.

OMG ... home grown mangos are something else entirely. Anyone that can should grow a mango. These were little fruit 12cm long ... but delicious (and the pips were also small). So yummy.

Nathan's Edible Fruits
Update: 41 days 4hrs

Comments: -

Just popped out of compost heap when living in Blue Mountains, so I dragged it back here.

No fruit yet, but others in the area go well. I will graft it with a named variety very shortly. It's growing quite well in full sun, on the high/dry side of my garden. I've recently added a swale for it and the other trees in same vicinity.

Mango - Kensington Pride grafted (Grafted) 8/10

Henry's Edible Fruits
Update: 88 days 1hrs

Comments: -

Very healthy but have not fruited yet.  Purchased from Daleys.

August 2009:  Some flowering activity recorded

September 2009:  Some growth recorded.  Also observed tips of leaves becoming burnt / brown.  Will stop cow manure fertilising and replace with fruit fertiliser.  Will also water tree from rain water tank as salinity in town water may be suspect.  All brown edged leaves are snipped off.

September 08th, 2009:  Disaster!  Found one third of my tree on the ground; the possible work of cockatoos.  Pruned and hope for the best.  Applied sulphate of potash and watered in.  Only rain water is used for this mango tree.  Leaves still look normal.

October 2009:  Continued with watering with rain water.  Leaves look normal.  No browning observed.

November 2009:  Looking healthy and some growth recorded.

December 2009 to March 2010:  Noticeably much bigger with lots of growth recorded.  Recommenced watering with town water.  No more leaves turning brown since.

Just germinating, has 2 leaves after nine months. Notch the wallaby has taken up sitting on the seed trays during the heat of the day. I had better pot it up.

Feb 2012 - Planting day has finally come after several years in a pot my tree is now about a foot high, time to go in the ground.

Great tree with great fruit.......full of flavour and no fibre at all.  I keep all my mango trees at about 3 metres tall (I have 4 all together, and cut back 1 each year).  This one is in amongst my vege garden, and has a compost bin sitting right underneath, so gets all the nutrients it needs from there.

optimistic of me i know but i trimmed the top two leaves to encourage branching and thought i would try a leaf cutting. It's still green after 3 weeks so you never know!

Make sure you keep it out of any and all sun. The sun is much more of a problem than the cold.

Mango - R2E2 (Grafted) (Grafted) 8/10

ManishU's Edible Fruits
Update: 167 days 19hrs

Comments: -

Update 09-Dec-2011: Got around 2-3 tiny fruits which dropped before they matured. Just one fruit remaining which is as big as a closed fist at the moment. New pic attached.

I love mangoes, my favourite being the Alphonse variety. But unfortunately we do not get it here in Australia. Daleys is seeking propogation material for the last 2 years :( The variety closest to alphonse i believe is the bowen variety. But I have planted the R2E2 variety which produce a larger fruit and is equally sweet.

This tree was in my apartment balcony in a pot for about a year before i planted it into the ground last year. And about a month later it flowered and produced 3 lovely fruits :)

This year it has already started flowering profusely (pic). I might have to prematurely remove the fruits in december coz i dont think this little tree will be able to bear the weght of the fruits if it holds on to 3 or more.

Bizibee's Edible Fruits
Update: 172 days 7hrs

Comments: -

I forgot to label it so I can't remember what type of mango it is ( I'm hopeless like that). I planted it as a seed from a mango I bought from the supermarket 3 years ago.  It started off on my kitchen window ledge and is currently in the green house. It is doing great.  I currently have a few more seeds in production.

I think it is a Bowen.  Bought from Bunnings 3 years ago in pot.  Since then I have transplanted into a bigger pot.  It is thriving.  It is in a sheltered area. Has survived 2 cold winters.  This year is currently producing flowers.  Currently preparing ground for transplanting.  Do I need to clip the top of it before planting in ground?
