3 in 1 Plum (Santa Rosa, Satsuma, Italian Plum/Prune) (Grafted) 10/10 Blazeaglory's Edible FruitsUpdate: 80 days 2hrs Comments: - So far it has not blossomed as I have only planted it a week ago. I bought it bare root from Home Depot. The tree was half price so I got it for $8. The good thing about this plum tree is it has 3 varieties of plum on one plant. The Santa Rosa and Satsuma have low chill hours (300) but the Italian prune has 800 chill hours. I dont know why they would graft such a high chill hour plum onto a tree with 2 othe low chill hours but hopefully it will fruit. I have seen Santa Rosa and Satsuma fruit in my area so my fingers are crossed. This tree was also showing strong signs of green growth while still in its bag. As soon as I planted it it took off with nice leaves. Hopefull I will get some flowers as this tree is 6foot . I trimmed 1/3 of the shoots after planting to stimulate growth. I have heard to prune after harvest but a wise man told me to prune in early spring to stimulate growth. I will update this page as time goes on. Davidson Plum - NSW Kathy's Edible FruitsUpdate: 109 days 20hrs Comments: - Such a beautiful girl! I love her velvety pink new growth - if only you could make a dress out of it! You have to be careful not to damage a leaf though because when she's little one leaf is a significant proportion of the tree. 2009: She transplanted from my old house which was great - I was particularly worried about her cause she's a native. She did get flowers that year but I had to pull them off because I didn't want her to waste energy on them when I needed her to focus on surviving the move. 2010: First fruit this year. My dad LOVES how sour it is. I think next year the fruit that he doesn't eat might be destined to make some yummy relish. Summer 2011: Lots of suckery new growth coming round the base. To leave or not to leave? Do I want a bush or a tree? Spring 2011: I left the suckers because I was worried that I might have planted her into potty mix that was a bit gross. She seems fine though. Hated the strong spring winds that we had this year. I have planted some cassava to try and grow a windbreak for her. Fruiting Months November and December Planted: 2007 Height 1.5 metres Growing: In a Pot Qty: 1 First Fruited: 2 Years from purchase in pot Pollination: No Fertiliser or Organics Used: chicken poo, worm castings, Seasol, Charlie Carp Pest Control: Elephant weevils might be the ugliest looking thing I have ever seen. Flacourtia (cape plum) 10/10 Glennis's Edible FruitsUpdate: 112 days 7hrs Comments: - I grow this native because it is a host plant for the australian rustic butterfly . The plant flushes with new growth most of the year and the butterflies hang around the garden most of the year . You need a bisexual one if you dont have male and female plants if you want fruit . It is a rainforest plant so it needs lots and lots of mulch . I read that jam is made from the fruit . The 2 large plants i have are not bisexual so will not have fruit . Thats ok because i bought a bisexual one but it will take 5 year to get big enough to fruit 3/2/2012 . Plum - Gulf Ruby (Grafted) BJ's Edible FruitsUpdate: 137 days 15hrs Comments: - purchased as a pot-bound throw-out from Bunnings I have teased out its roots and provided much compost. It is low chill so has lost its leaves. I am hoping that Spring will reveal a happier plant. It is going to need to cope with some fierce WA sun in its current location. leaves and blossom emerged in August 2010. I think it is still a bit grumpy about being pot-bound previously, but it seems to have picked up toward the end of October The plant has large (still green) fruit attached as of October 2011. I tested one of the fruit in Jan 2012, they are alright but standard plum flavour. I think the plant is missing something as it the leaves just don't have the colour of the other plums. Being planted next to a cement driveway can't help. In autumn I'll seek to improve the soil further. In the meatime I've mulched under the canopy with pinebark Height 1 metres Growing: In the Ground Qty: 1 Sun/Shade: Full Sun Pollination: Cross Pollination Cross Pollinator Variety: Santa Rosa Pest Control: ladybugs Organic Status:Partially Organic Was this review helpful? plum - amber gold (Grafted)BJ's Edible FruitsUpdate: 137 days 15hrs Comments: - I needed something tough to survive the location (full Perth summer sun against a reflective metal fence) that would 'match' the other plums I have. Blossom commenced late August, early September 2010. It only really seems to have taken off late October - maybe next year it will feel more at home. Plant is still not thriving. Leaves removed June 2011. I'm not sure why it isn't very happy ... it is just taking a long time to feel thoroughly at home. Jan 2012 - This is NOT an amber gold ... the fruit (half a dozen) are very large (circumference 20cm), heart shaped, green-red on the outside, pink on the inside and SUBLIME. Clearly the wrong lable - but delicious. Not another blood plum either (as I've got these and this fruit is different). The plant took awhile to establish, but is growing well now. Clearly requires more chill than offered by Perth ... but just divine. Plum (unknown) (Cutting) Kathy's Edible FruitsUpdate: 144 days 24hrs Comments: - Spring 2011: Cuttings given to me by a friend of a friend (thakns heaps Brett!!) who inherited the parent tree with his farm... none of us know what sort they are but they are yummers! The first of the cuttings just appear to be coming to life. Summer 2011: Out of 5 cuttings only 2 grew leaves (back in spring). One was dead as a dodo but the other 2 were still green - just sleepy?? So I scraped off some bark, dunked them in rooting hormone and repotted them. One is already starting to how signs of success! I have one in the ground and a few in pots, one of which seems very well adapted to our conditions. the one in ground is a slow and very compact, bushy grower. Plum tree (Grafted) 10/10 Bizibee's Edible FruitsUpdate: 170 days 21hrs Comments: - This was already here when I moved in. The first year I moved in, I had so much fruit, we couldn't eat it all. I made some plum jam with some. The rest I was giving it away in boxes. The following year in winter I pruned it back hard because I wanted the branches to start growing lower so a could reach the fruit and neaten up the tree. That summer I got no fruit which I expected. The next three years I got very little fruit. I guess I pruned I bit to hard. Plum - Gulfgold (Grafted) 8/10 Edward's Edible FruitsUpdate: 189 days 2hrs Comments: - Very attractive little tree, bearing largish yellow plums. These ripen later than Gulf Ruby and taste very good provided you wait till fully ripe. Plum - Mult Grafted (Grafted) Kath's Edible FruitsUpdate: 195 days 21hrs Comments: - Multi grafted plum, affectionatley called my Muti PLum for it mutant nature, rootstock Myrobolan, grafted with mariposa, regrafted with gulf gold and gulf ruby. Problamatic but interesting. Lesson in importance of thinning the fruit. Lost one of the grafts, not to worry grafted some of the broken bits onto new rootstock shoots - way to low, going to create new problem next year when the fruit hang on the ground. The Chill Factor - end Aug/Sept 2010 - all the plums are flowering together, by early Sept. the Gulf Gold has set lots of fruit - but is still spot flowering. The mariposa part of the tree is also flowering, what felt like a warm winter because the minimums were high was cooler because the maximums were lower - so the chill factor was higher! I used mesh fruit fly exclusion bags on a couple of branches of the plums, the birds have been pecking at them today - so I picked the gulf ruby's.
