As a strangler fig the seeds germinate high in the canopy of the rainforest on a limb or in the fork of a tree. The small trees sends out aerial roots which head for the ground where they take root and begin the process of strangling the host tree, this can take 100 years or more to completely rot the original tree leaving a lattice work of roots and a hollow trunked fig tree. They can be grown as a free standing tree provided they have plenty of room, makes a lovely indoor potted plant or bonsai. Fruits are edible.
