Nursery Assistant/Traineeship

This is your opportunity to join an expanding fruit and nut tree nursery. We are looking for an enthusiastic trainee with a genuine love of horticulture. All training will be provided and the ideal person will be offered fulltime employment upon completion of the traineeship.

Key Duties:
· assisting with vegetative propagation, grafting, cuttings etc
· prepare potting mixes using hand tools or machines
· assist in planting seeds and cuttings
· load, unload and move plants and materials
· tend plants by hand watering and hand weeding
· prepare and package plants for sale or transport
· assist in general cleaning and maintenance of plant nurseries.

The successful applicant will be required to work under the supervision of a horticultural tradesperson. The work is carried out outside and in greenhouses, often in a team or without supervision.

Personal Requirements:
· able to undertake manual and sometimes heavy work
· observant and methodical
· good oral and written communication skills
· interested in outdoors work
· enjoy working in teams

Applicants with previous experience in vegetative propagation will be highly considered. Experience in the key duties above is desirable.
