Kakadu Plum - Grafted

Grafted onto more cool tolerant rootstock, experimentally. Most parts of the tree are used as medicine by traditional custodians, including leaves. It is a tall slender tree to 10m with creamy flower spikes in early summer. Small yellow green olive-sized, plum-like fruits ripening in autumn. Have very high Vitamin C content, can be eaten raw or cooked. Flavour is sour with an astringent aftertaste. Traditionally used as a thirst quencher and snack. Widespread over the northern tropical woodlands. It also is used in the seafood industry to improve shelflife of prawns. Fruit contains oxalic acid so consume in moderation.

Selected cultivar from Philippines. Very sweet, medium size, elliptical with light brown skin. Sapodillas are highly prized in Asia with their sweet, brown-sugar cinnamon flavoured fruit that look like kiwi fruit. They have a slightly gritty texture like pears.

Geffner is an Israeli cultivar with a moderate to heavy cropping capacity. The flavour is exceptionally good and although it performs well it's not superior to the African Pride. However it is known to be self pollinating and sets fruit every year. A very reliable tree that does not need much maintenance for home gardens.
