Australian Round Lime Tree Care

    3 responses

Shaun starts with ...
Hi all,

I have just ordered an Australian Round Lime Tree (Citrus australis) seedling from Daleys. Does anyone have any care advice or information they could provide me? There doesn’t seem to much at all online. Ideally wanting to keep it in a pot like I have with my other citrus (non-native) trees.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

Shaun.

Hi Shaun,

If it was on a commercial rootstock, there would be relatively little difference in treatment from regular citrus, but since it is a seedling, there are a couple of differences:

Firstly, while it will still want feeding, it will burn more readily, so be careful.
In addition to this, it won't like wet feet - as with all citrus, but especially so with natives such as this.
It can be grown in a pot, but just be wary that pots can be hard to regulate the moisture of, which I think will be your biggest threat.

Otherwise, it is a fairly hardy plant that is more resilient to pests than traditional citrus (though don't take its resistance for granted!)

Regards,

Hi Shaun

If you want a more detailed information about growing native OZ limes including citrus australis there is a NSW Prime Fact Sheet from the Department of Primary Industries under the heading Growing Australian native finger limes.

Happy Gardening :-)
