David - Diamond Beach starts with ... Hi ...I live 2kms back from the beach at Diamond Beach (between Taree and Forster NSW). I want to plant some avocado and macadamia trees and hopefully spread the fruiting as best as possible over the year. The soil is reasonably sandy ... have full/partial/shady spots available. Are avocados and macadamias even a reasonable prospect? What varieties of each would be best suited? tks all! Fruitylicious1 says... Certainly, you can successfully plant avo and mac in your area. The best avo for NSW and QLD is Sharwill. The best avo for sandy soil is Edranol. Here is a list of common avo harvest times in Australia: 1. Bacon and Edranol - June-July 2. Pinkerton - June-August 3. Fuerte - June-Oct 4. Rincon - July-Sept 5. Secondo - Aug-Dec 6. Hass - Sept-Jan 7. Reed - Nov-March According to the above data you can harvest avo for approximately 9 months in a year if you plant most of them. For best macadamia you can't go pass Daddow and A4 for overall performance. There is also a dwarf mac if you are pressed for space.
