Leonarda starts with ... Hello, can you please tell me which avocado tree can grow in Canberra? I read that Bacon may, and if that's true, when is the best time to plant? Also, I'm after a cherry tree for a friend in Sydney (that will actually fruit). I read that Starkrimson, Minnie Royal, and Royal Lee may be suitable. I'd prefer a self-pollinating tree as well. And if any of these are suitable for Sydney, when is the best time to plant? Thank you in anticipation. | About the Author Leonarda Kambah 14th July 2018 11:25am #UserID: 18693 Posts: 1 View All Leonarda's Edible Fruit Trees |

Fruitylicious1 says... Hi Leonarda Yes Bacon is one of the most cold tolerant avo around. Other cold hardy avo varieties include Zutano, Brogdon, Lula and Monroe if you can find them in Australia. Only bacon is readily available. Like most non-deciduous fruit trees, spring is the best to plant evergreen fruit trees. Cherries are best planted during winter when they are dormant. brad16 says... Would that be Ganter Nursery? It's interesting that in the same postcode is another nursery called Clausen Nursery. What makes it interesting is another type of avocado they both call 'littlecado' and 'little cado'. The Ganter 'Littlecado' I've mentioned before is a small type B that I think is also know as a 'Ganter' by some others. The Clausen 'Little Cado' is a Wurtz and type A, so they are not the same thing. Therefore the Ganter 'Littlecado' is not a Wurtz. I've mentioned this avocado before for being a 'dwarf' type B, which comes up occasionally when people want 'dwarf' avocados of both types. | About the Author brad16 GOROKAN,2263,NSW 17th July 2018 12:08pm #UserID: 14079 Posts: 175 View All brad16's Edible Fruit Trees |
