Hi Sharon,
You should be able to grow any sort of avocado tree in Nimbim. Buy grafted trees. I'd stick with the favourites like Shepard, Hass, Reed, Lamb Hass (if you can buy one), and Pinkerton.
Remember they don't like their roots being wet, they like a fair bit of Gypsum, and NO fertilizer for ~ 9 months.
Mine are growing on mounds because I've got a clay / heavy soil. If you're in sandy soil, dig in lots of old / composted manure (& gypsum), about 2 weeks before planting.
Have a search top right in this forum for Anthracnose Avocado, and you'll see a photo of my Edranol avo growing on a mound. I buy those 'rings' from bunnings for ~ $10. They help keep the mulch away from the tree trunk.
I'd buy both types (A & B) to help with pollination.
Hope that helps.
