Black Sapote problem

    6 responses

Our Black Sapote is growing well and has fruit. But leaves show black marks, like stains. Not mold. Doesn't rub off. The fruit are still very firm, haven't gone soft. Any ideas what this coud be and how to treat it. Thanks

My seedling (now 8 years old) has been through droughts, frost and periods of constant rain that kept the ground boggy. In all these testing times the tree has not shown the symptoms pictured above.

Perhaps it is a disease? Did you two (John and Les) get your plants from the same place? I mean were they both produced by the same nursery?

We bought our sapote 18 months ago from a nursery in Maclean. I don't know if ours was sourced from the same place as John in SA, only the nurseries would know that.

Sounds like these trees like wet feet, which i find unusual. We are in the middle of a heat wave, 10 days plus over 40oc.

I have moved to a house with a black sapote tree, the fruit has black spots on it like the ones in the picture. Not sure what I should do.

They are very prone to that blackening and healthy robust trees don't seem to get it.I presume it is weather related.
