My seedling tree generally starts fruiting in July with last fruits in December, I'm on the east coast though in northern nsw. I have half a dozen on my kitchen bench almost ready to go, love BS season!
Curious that you had to wait so long for your first fruits mine took about 3-4 years. I have had huge crops well in excess of 100 fruit average weight probably 500g, but last year was inexplicably lean, maybe only 10 fruit. Just another gardening mystery for me

There were black sapotes on display at the Tully Show this year (28 and 29 July) but they were small. The best of the crop is gone by this time of the year.

It looks like the more warmth they receive the earlier they fruit.
