Vidya2020_1 starts with ... We planted blueberry kisses around 5-6 months ago. It has gotten very few leaves and stem is red with no new leaf growth. The leaves that are already present have turned mostly red. I'm not sure what is wrong. I have looked online and while there are suggestions for red leaves, I couldn't find anything for red stem. How do I encourage leaf growth? Should I cut off these stems? But it's pretty much all the bush.

nossojardim says... Hi Vidya, The lack of growth could be due to the soil. Blueberries absolutely need acidic soil (pH 4.5 -5.5) So if you've planted it without amending the soil with sulfur or peat moss, then that is very likely the cause. I haven't grown this variety before, but the red stem can be a natural change into dormancy. Through autumn and winter some of my blueberries tend to become purplish red (stem and leafs) and depending on the variety may lose some or all of its leaves with the cold. | About the Author nossojardim COBURG NORTH,3058,VIC 29th April 2020 9:05am #UserID: 21216 Posts: 7 View All nossojardim's Edible Fruit Trees |
