Browning avocado leaves

Hi guys! I'm having some issues with one of my avocado seedlings. It's just shy of a year old, started with the good old toothpick method, grew well and has been in soil for 9ish months.
I water 1-3 times a week depending on the weather and how dry the soil is, and recently have noticed leaves on the larger plant drying and curling in patches at the edges.
It's been turned as I thought it might have been excess sun, but its occurring on all sides of the plant. Keeping it semi shaded has had no effect. Is this an issue of water salinity? Can this be managed/repaired, or is the tree doomed?
Might be relevant to mention that only my larger tree is browning, my 6 month old seedling is fine, if a little pale (have attached photos of both).
