Daisyetta starts with ...
Do all Cherimoya varieties require fertilisation by hand? I have read elsewhere that this is the case particularly with Fina de Jete.

No . Look at the Californian Rare fruit site and you'll see that Spain does not . It's available in OZ.

Sorry - terminology may have caused confusion. I was referring to pollination by hand.
Thank you for your response Virginny, but the Californian Rare Fruit site says all need pollination by hand in America. Couldn't find a reference on that site to the situation in Spain.

What is the situation in Australia? Do any of you grow Cherimoyas in eastern Australia without artificial pollination?
If so, do you consider the tree worth growing?

Not my understanding. Variety Spain is listed as self pollinating. Did you actually look at the listed cultivars one by one?

Right, Spain is a.k.a McPherson . I could not find the reference to self pollination . I can give you my personal experience to the reality of self pollination >I never hand pollinate and I feed the street.

Thank you Virginny. That was exactly the information I was seeking. If it's not too intrusive, which area of Sydney are you in?

Hi, Yas I'm in the greater west. There are native bees around, Trigona carbronara and it is they that do the pollination ,I suspect.
