John Mc says... Hey Sarah, I've got a seedling raised tree probably about 4 years old. It's about 2m high and growing nicely. They can be quite a large tree, much larger than your persimmon. Their climate requirements would be on par with your persimmon also. They tell me it will be a few more years before I see any edible stalks (raisins) | About the Author JohnMc1 13th January 2011 9:17pm #UserID: 2743 Posts: 2043 View All JohnMc1's Edible Fruit Trees |

Jo says... Interesting you should ask - I was just researching botanical details of this tree when I say your query. YES, we have grown such a tree and are much enjoying its fruit (about 10 years on though it's been fruiting for the past few years). It is the progeny of a "Grandfather Tree" - over 100 years old - growing here in the Valley. Can be raised from seed (at end of edible stalks)or from self-propogated seedlings. Slow to grow initially but continues to reach up and out - matures about the size of a Walnut tree. Ours is still a youth but producing heaps of delicious fruit. All examples I'm aware of are growing on river flats (very sandy) with access to ground water - may not suit Adelaide. | About the Author Jo22 Macdonald Valley NSW 9th July 2011 1:55pm #UserID: 5522 Posts: 1 View All Jo22's Edible Fruit Trees |
