Custard Apple disease

Hi all

I have just bought a Custard Apple Paxton Prolific last week from Darley.

I planted it in my garden bed and top up with some gypsum 20cm down under the tree roots .

also, I put up a bag of Compost into the hole.

a few days later, I noticed there were some white-creammy mark on all the leaves. Then there were brown-black spots on all the leaves the last couple of days .

I don't really know what the problem is ?

I have been looking for any worms, leaf miner ... but cannot find any.

Anyone have any suggestions ?

Thanks all

Steven

Hi Steven,

Your Paxton may have disease built up from compost or mulch specially if it is damp or wet. I wouldn’t use any chemical spay at this stage. Suggest to clear the area under the plant and monitor for 2-3 weeks. Cheers

I would put it back in its pot for a year or 2 increasing pot size maybe twice till bigger and develop your ground a bit better over a couple months with compost and raise it up 30cm as you seem to have clay from all that gypsum you applied? Not just wack it in and hope for the best?

thanks guys .

I just bought another one last week and left that in the bigger pot.

I was just afraid if I take the plant out and put it back in to the pot, I might damage the root.

I have put some brand compost from another source. the leaves still getting some dark-brown spot but there are a few new little tiny leaves appear .

I will just leave that new plant in the pot like Mark said . my first plant might be a test.

Been buying compost from that store for long time and all other plants were all good , dont know why there is problem with this time.

Steven - it wont set the plant back hardly at all put into a very slightly bigger pot than it came in with a premium potting mix with a handful of coir and perlite for that small mix - i just potted up my group potted seedlings that i grafted last october into individual pots and they all look ok. When it comes time plant the two together in the same hole as ive also done - may need to prune quite a bit tho.
