Apparently hostas were originally cultivated as food! I was thinking of getting a hosta plant, but was not sure which of the "e;ornamental"e; varieties actually taste good. Anybody had any experiences eating their hostas?

Hi McMelb,

All Hosta varieties are edible except for animals. The most popular variety for eating as vegetables are H. Montana and H. Sieboldii especially with Japanese cuisine, and H. Plantaginea is grown for its sweet flowers.

Happy Gardening :-)
