yeah, very hard getting hold of one that's for sure. What's the success rate with growing carambola from seed? Are they generally true to type or no?

Thanks Phil that would really help me out a lot :D

I have that sapote. Damaged the roots extracting it (growing in clay, roots entwined with roots of other species etc etc, wasn't easy) but it should be ok I think. It is about 1.4 m tall.

yeah the mother tree is dropping all of its leaves right now, but this one has new shoots (which are admittedly drooping right now, I should probably cut them off...think I will).

Sure is tough...I cannot believe anything could survive in that soil, it looks as though it isn't far off becoming solid brick

omfg

Did you notice if they were grafted at or where they seedlings?

Haven't forgotten about that fig, either. Waiting for further root development, as I've come to realize that without this the risk of shock death ( when removed from greenhouse)decreases considerably the bigger the rootball is. I've lost a few developing cuttings by having been deceived by the amount of foliage being put out by them, I've figured out that this doesn't count for much in the end. Some pics of where the one I've promised to you is at incoming later this afternoon, will be heading to the property today.

Carambola are a must have fruit in my opinion. Pretty much the only downside is that they can be a breeding ground for fruit fly due to uncollected fruit owing to sheer abundance, but if you have the wherewithal to prune off unwanted fruit this isn't a problem. Giant Siam is probably the best cv.

Biggest I've seen wouldn't have been far off being as big as a 2l milk bottle. Fruit was wonky from either an excess of fertilizer or Some TE.

Will have to move mine I think, it's not doing well. I don't know why this is, but whenever I use cypress pine mulch for fruit trees they grow much, much more slowly. Doesn't seem to happen with the crappy forest mulch. Someone should look into this.

Cypress and in fact many Eucs are allelopathic. The oils can be harmful to some species.
