grafting onto a flame tree

    6 responses

I have a flame tree about 20ft high that lost some of the lower branches on one side when a climber was removed rather roughly! It now is uneven and I was thinking of grafting a couple of branches back to "even" it up again. Can anyone tell me if this is possible or how to do that? I have never grafted anything before.

Yes, Brachychiton spp. can be grafted.
with grafting it to itself, there won't be much chance of graft incompatibility ;-)
grab a book on grafting from your local library and read up on it.
Not too hard to do, just need to know when and what type of graft for the situation.

The flame tree I am familiar with is Erythrina indica, so perhaps that's what Peter means?

Coral trees in WA are mistakenly called flametrees, but they are not in the kurrajong Brachychiton group!
