Hass Avocado

Hi all, I have a dwarf Hass avocado and I think it might have two issues. It has yellowing leaves which I was wondering might be a mineral deficiency and it has this odd condition on the trunk and branches (blackening and some splitting). I don’t know whether this anthracnose or whether both are just symptoms of under watering and under feeding. I have also made the mistake of mulching the tree as well. Any help greatly appreciated, thanks Tim

Hi Tim,

The problem with your avocado branches is sunburn. I use interior non glossy white water based paint mixed 50/50 with water and paint on sun exposed branches. I also cable tie shade cloth around exposed branches and it works as well.

The most important part to protect is the graft union and trunk because if this gets badly burnt you can lose your tree.

As the tree grows larger the leaves should shade most of the branches.
