I know it's an awful weed, but horsetail is as well a very useful herb. And I promise I will plant it in a container - but I really would like to have this plant. Are either the seeds or the plants sold anywhere?

I looked up the NSW weed index and found it to be very prevalent around Sydney. I'd be be surprised if it's not close to your area. I'm just an hour north of Sydney, going by the weed distribution map it should be close to my area as well. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. Will let you know if ever I spot it.
It propagates by spores amongst other means so it would be very difficult to contain.

Thanks, I looked in an older Australian herb book, and they say put it in a pot and prune it right down in summer to keep it from going wild.
