Hello
Can anyone identify the rapidly multiplying eggs or larvae in our pet poo composter? We don’t have these in our regular scrap compost bin.
Thanks!

Can you post a picture? Pretty hard to tell without a visual.

Really Julie? Will a picture of maggots in dog poo really enlighten us?

I don't understand your comment Manfred. There is more than one type of maggot, and not all are a problem. I'm thinking particularly of Black Soldier Fly, which is beneficial.

The poster did ask if we could identify it, but without a pic that's rather difficult.

Thank you for educating me on those flies Julie. I did look them up on wikipedia and haven't been able to sleep since, ruminating over the horror of a diet of maggots raised on dog poo.

To each his/her own, I say, but all things within reason. I'm thinking of taking up militant vegetarianism and organising a march in the streets to protest the fate of those innocent maggots?

BSF are great for feeding fish and/or chooks. But my point was that they do no harm - in fact they really speed up the composting process.
