Kiwifruit Cross Pollination

    2 responses

Nick T starts with ...
I've got an extra space at the end of my kiwifruit trellis (the one for the Issai kiwiberry) and I'm thinking of putting in a female kiwi to train in the opposite direction. Would the kiwiberry pollinate the normal kiwi? I read on a website that kiwifruit pollen can pollinate a female kiwiberry, so I'm assuming the opposite would be possible?

Hi Nick, it sounds logical especially since Kiwiberry can also be grafted onto regular Kiwifruit stock. Sometimes nature can be tricky though. There's a decent growing guide for Kiwifuit/Kiwiberry at http://www.nec.org.nz/growing-fruit-and-nuts/files/Fruit%20Guide%20-%203-Kiwifruit-Kiwiberry.pdf . Hope your trellis is strong.

Nick T, how has your experiment gone? I also have a bisexual kiwi berry and want to get another female kiwifruit.
All the best luck for your kiwis too.
