sandman starts with ... Hi all, i've enjoyed reading the Q & A's on lots of subjects. Hoping for some help on Kiwifruit. From what i've read the 2 most popular varieties for the Melbourne area are Bruno and Hayward. I believe from what i've read that both varieties are similar to the kiwi fruit that you buy in the supermarket. I'm in a sandy soil area so i think i have the correct growing conditions. I would like to know peoples thoughts on either variety as well as any other recommendations. Also keen to know the time it takes for the plants to start bearing fruit and if one variety bears quicker than others. Cheers. | About the Author sandman1 Tooradin Victoria 22nd February 2011 10:20am #UserID: 4974 Posts: 1 View All sandman1's Edible Fruit Trees |
Sarah says... Hi Sandman..I am addicted to this Forum but don't particularly feel qualified to answer anything!.. I am in Adelaide and have planted x2 female Hayward and x1 male. They've been in 2 yrs, the first growing season not too much growth at all, I assumed the root system was establishing, this spring and Summer they have taken off big time..leaves as big as dinner plates. They haven't flowered yet, but hoping next year it'll happen. I was cautioned by Perrys Fruit and nut not to plant on the northern side. Two are facing east and one north-with no issues. Our Summer has been fairly mild this year, so am not sure if it'll burn in the future... | About the Author Sarah Adelaide 24th February 2011 6:03pm #UserID: 4696 Posts: 8 View All Sarah's Edible Fruit Trees |
