Lemon Tree Disease

    2 responses

Hello there,

I'm new to the home grown citrus tree game and I've recently taken my lemonade lemon tree from its pot and planted it in the ground and I have noticed recently "e;scales"e; growing on the tree. I assume its some type of disease. Prior to planting the small tree there were a lot of ants around the tree and all over the branches (not sure if this is related).

Does anyone know how to get rid of the problem I've got?

thanks in advanced

Hi Ash

Your citrus tree is being decimated by citrus scales that sucks the life blood (sap) out of your new citrus tree producing a by-product called honeydew which is being feasted upon by the ants adding insult to injury. If you want eco friendly pesticide use neem oil or chili and garlic potion sold at bunnies or at any reputable nursery. Also address the ant issue by baiting them to eradicate the entire colony.

Happy gardening :-)

Scales are pests, not a disease. Try spraying with white oil on a cool, preferably cloudy day. I would say the ants were attracted to the scales.

There are also quite a few yellow leaves. This is a perfect time of year to give your tree a good feed. Healthy, well-fed plants have a better chance of resisting pests and diseases.
