Cashy1975 starts with ... Hi All, We moved in to out house in January of this year. The house has a mature lemon tree that fruits well but has some issues with the trunk/branches and also the fruit. The trunk/branch issues appear old but certainly appear to be some sort of fungus and we are concerned it's terminal. The second issue is about some of the fruit it produces, a lot of it is off color and the skin feels quite hard and rough as opposed to waxy and soft is. We treated the tree with white oil recently to see whether it was pest related however this hasn't stopped the issue. We now think it might be related to the trunk issue. The tree is well fed, not over watered and has no vegetation at the base. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Cameron.

jakfruit etiquette says... The Lemon fruit might have lemon scab aka citrus scab. The trunk seems to have fungal problems. Both could be dampness related. Sunburn or damage can also let fungus into the bark, so be careful not to open up the canopy too much and sunburn the trunk. White oil works by smothering the problem, so it may not help a fungal bark problem. You could try spraying the trunk with copper oxychloride. It tends to wash off in rain, so you could also try to paint the worst areas with a copper oxy paste. I usually make a wet paste with copper and powdered milk which sticks a bit better and cuts the copper ammount. You still need to use chem ppe, even with safer chemicals. | About the Author jakfruit etiquette gotham city,3000,Vic 17th September 2020 10:05am #UserID: 5133 Posts: 915 View All jakfruit etiquette's Edible Fruit Trees |
