Mimosa is the name that used to be given to wattles (acacias). Try Googling scented wattle or acacia.

There are many varieties.

Hi John

There is a fragrant mimosa called 'Mimosa Borealis'. According to Western Australia Organism List (WAOL) it is OK to import the seed or the plant to Australia. It grows wild in the US from Texas to. Mexico, but not many sellers.

Happy Gardening :-)

I don't think that the above statement is correct and is perhaps a little misleading. John's postcode indicates that he is located in Victoria, so the WAOL list is not relevant to what can be imported into Victoria or the rest of Australia.

As far as I can see, Mimosa Borealis is not listed on Bicon as an approved species so is NOT OK to import into Australia. To avoid disappointment, it's a good idea to read the new regulations introduced by Aqis last December on their site to understand the new requirements for importing seeds, whether permitted or not. As for live plants, there are hardly any that can enter Australia without undergoing a lengthy and very expensive quarantine procedure. Thank you.

I'm wondering if "e;mimosa"e; is Acacia farnesiana, which is already around in Australia.
Vachellia farnesiana, also known as Acacia farnesiana, and previously Mimosa farnesiana, commonly known as sweet acacia,[1] huisache[2] or needle bush.
