Fruitylicious1 says... Hi Greg 1.The most common failure of papaya fruit drop is lack of pollination in female flowers. That's why commercial growers prefer hermaphrodite paw paw because it can self pollinate. Some growers also nurture male paw paw to overcome this problem. 2. Other reason is inconsistent irrigation. Too much or too little can also cause fruit drop. 3. Thirdly, papaya fruit fly. The larvae can burrow inside the immature fruit and devour the inside causing it to drop. 4. Over fertilization. Cause the papaya to produce more vegetation rather than fruit Happy Gardening :-) | About the Author Fruitylicious1 TAMWORTH,2340,NSW 8th February 2018 6:40am #UserID: 16885 Posts: 709 View All Fruitylicious1's Edible Fruit Trees |

Mike Tr says... Female fruit typically are not as elongated or red fleshed as bisex fruit and are of lower quality. Poor fruit set may be due pollination issues or nutrition with potash likely to help. There are no papaya fruit fly in Australia and fruit spotting bugs are the worst insect pest.Excess N can retart fruit set as much as insufficient N. | About the Author Mike Tr Cairns 8th February 2018 11:59am #UserID: 8322 Posts: 614 View All Mike Tr's Edible Fruit Trees |
