Peanut tree

I live in Newcastle. My tree looked very healthy when it arrived. I planted it in a large half wine barrel and didn't water during winter when it was deciduous. But Newcastle gets a lot of rain, so it was too wet and died of black rot :(

Do you mean the native Peanut tree? They are sold at the Pimlico TAFE Townsville Greening Australia nursery. I presume they could send you some plants as you are in Australia. They have prices like a few dollars, as they are probably gov subsidised to help the students study. My peanut tree is in the ground and is sprouting new leaves at the moment in Townsville and Mingela. Good time to plant another tree. The internet says they can grow into a big tree.

If it is a Sterculia they turn into whoppers and aren't really the finest of native edible species.Their pods and black seeds do look quite attractive however.
