Northy starts with ... I have a young mango tree that has developed these brown spots on it's leaves. It shed all it's leaves before and started to come back, now the brown spots are on a couple of leaves. What is is? How do I help it? I also have a young tangelo tree that recently appeared to have all of this soot like substance appearing on it. It also has some small black ants running around in it too. What is it? How do I help it? I appreciate any help. I'm new to growing fruit trees and need some knowledgeable advice. Thanks PS: my pics aren't showing properly on my post so I uploaded them here to see as well. https://ibb.co/KjQWR48 https://ibb.co/9ywQSk0 | About the Author Northy Merryburn 17th October 2019 8:10pm #UserID: 21071 Posts: 1 View All Northy's Edible Fruit Trees |

Pauline Staff of Daley's Nursery says... Hi Northy, It could be the beginnings of Anthracnose, which is very common in mangoes. It is treated with copper sprays. But you can also work on soil health with extra organic matter, this will improve your plants defences. The sooty mould and ants is always a sign of scale infestation. If you treat this then these other signs will go. You can use pest oils, garlic or soap sprays. You can also prevent ants climbing the tree by putting a petroleum jelly collar around the trunk.
