Jantina starts with ... Hi tr, do you know anything about Pouteria nitida also known as Pouteria psammophila? in my attempts to lay my hands on Lucuma plants I have ended up with this plant instead and though there are many references to it on the web I have been unable to find any details on it's horticultural requirements. Some of the websites said it is a plant on the endangered list so I'm anxious not to kill it. I garden on a north facing slope on terre rossa soil and can grow avocadoes and white sapotes out in the open with some protection when young. All help appreciated. | About the Author Jantina Mt. Jantina says... tr, I have just spoken to Neil at Limberlost and he tells me that the fruit of nitida is much the same as obovata except longer, up to 20 cm, and the growing requirements are identical, so they are in my solar grower at the moment to lessen temperature shock and when the weather warms up will plant them out, taking note about the taproot warning. Thanks for trying. | About the Author Jantina Mt. Gambier S.A. 25th August 2009 10:27am #UserID: 1351 Posts: 1272 View All Jantina's Edible Fruit Trees |
